The Little Sleepy Star
There are many stars in the sky. The stars shine on Earth. There is also the Moon. Moon counts the stars so that none of them are missing.
A Comet told the Moon something is wrong on Earth. The children can’t sleep and they cry.
Sailors are sailing home and they can’t find the way.
A poet is writing a poem and can’t finish it.
The Moon and the Comet didn’t know why everything was wrong on Earth.
Then the Moon saw that Little Sleepy Star wasn’t in the sky. Moon said: “It’s Little Sleepy Star’s fault. Everything is wrong on Earth because Little Sleepy Star isn’t in the sky.”
Just then Little Sleepy Star came running and she said she was sorry for falling asleep. Moon was very angry. He said that because of her the children can’t sleep, the sailors can’t find their way and the poet can’t write the poem.
Moon said that as punishment Little Sleepy Star has to go to Earth. The Comet carried the Little Sleepy Star to Earth. On Earth a bandit saw that Little Sleepy Star has golden hair and wanted to cut it. But Little Sleepy Star didn’t let him and wanted to turn the bandit into a good person. The bandit didn’t have a heart. He had a stone instead of a heart in his body.
Little Sleepy Star taught the bandit to write and read, so that he could write a letter to his mom. When the bandit learnt to write, he wrote “Dear mom” and his heart started beating. He decided to return home. He became a good person and helped Little Sleepy Star get back to the sky.
The Comet took her to the Moon. Little Sleepy Star was shining in the sky and the children stopped crying. The sailors found their way and the poet finished his poem.

The Little Sleepy Star
In the evening, stars appear in the sky. They help children fall asleep, sailors find their way, and poets write beautiful poems.
Let’s look up at the sky. The stars are waking up, happily chatting among themselves.
Comet speeds by, bringing the stars news from Earth. Something is wrong down there — children are crying and cannot sleep, sailors are lost at sea, and he also saw a poet who cannot finish his poem because he cannot find a rhyme for the word “friend.” Everyone is looking up at the sky.
Slowly, from afar, Father Moon arrives. Every night he counts his stars and tonight he notices that one star is missing.
Little Sleepy Star rushes in. The other stars realize that she is the reason everything is wrong on Earth — because she has been missing.
This has happened many times before, so Father Moon is now angry and will send Little Sleepy Star down to Earth as punishment.
Comet Shooting Tail carried Little Sleepy Star down to Earth. She took a small loaf of bread with her and covered her head with a scarf. Nobody on Earth can find out that she has golden hair.
When he dropped her off, she was all alone. She was sad, she missed her sisters and Father Moon.
She arrived in a big city. It was merry there, a fair full of many strange sights: a mermaid, a bearded countess, a spider with a human head, a crocodile from the Nile, and a stuffed calf with two heads.
Little Sleepy Star wandered through the fair, looking for a place to sleep.
In the evening, she came across an astronomer calling out to people, inviting them: “Look through the best telescope in the world! You will see the moon up close!” She was excited, she wanted to see the moon. But the astronomer wanted payment. Since she had no money, she offered him her loaf of bread. He refused it, so she offered him one of her golden hairs instead. The astronomer let her look through the telescope. She looked and saw Father Moon counting the stars, but he was always missing one — Little Sleepy Star.
Hidden behind a tent, the terrifying bandit Ceferin was listening. He had no heart, only a stone in its place. “I heard everything. This girl has golden hair. I will offer her a place to stay and when she falls asleep, I will cut off her golden hair and run away.”
And so the bandit’s plan came true. Little Sleepy Star came to his home.
“Oh, how messy and dirty everything is! Doesn’t your heart hurts to live like this?”
“I don’t have a heart! I have a stone for a heart, just so you know. Now go to sleep!”
“Oh my, your hair is all messy! Don’t you have a comb?”
“No, I don’t. When I ran away from home and became a bandit, I left my comb behind. Now go to sleep!”
“Why don’t you write to your mother and ask her to send you a comb?”
“Well, if you want to write to your mother, you have to begin the letter with ‘Dear Mother’. But I don’t know how to write the word ‘dear”
Little Sleepy Star decided to teach him how to write the word ‘dear’ so he could write to his mother to send him a comb. When the bandit wrote the word ‘dear’ with her help, his heart started beating in his chest.
Happy and grateful, Ceferin kissed Little Sleepy Star on the forehead. He decided not to write to his mother but to return home instead, since he no longer wanted to be a bandit.
Just then, Comet appeared and took Little Sleepy Star back to the sky.Now she shines up there once again, and everything on Earth is finally well: the children are asleep, the sailors have found their harbour, and the poet found a rhyme for the word »friend« – ‘the end.’
