Kekec was a young boy. He was a shepherd. He had a long stick. He put goats out to eat the grass. He had a friend named Mojca, who was blind. It means she didn’t see. Mojca had a brother called Rožle.
The children played together, helped on the farm and put the goats out to eat the grass. They were friends.
Up in the hills lived Pehta. Pehta was not a nice lady, and she also had an angry and big dog. Pehta picked herbs and made good teas. She also made medicine for people who are sick.
Pehta took Mojca and did not let her go home to mom, dad and brother Rožle. Mojca sang really beautifully, so Pehta wanted her to stay with her and sing to her. Mojca was very sad and scared. She wanted to go home.
Kekec was searching for Mojca. He found her in Pehta’s house. He took her back home.
Kekec knew Pehta had medicine for the eyes to cure blind people. He went back Pehta’s house to take the medicine.
Pehta had a dog. The dog was very big, he was angry and was barking and showing teeth.
Kekec wanted to become friends with the dog. So, he gave him meat every day. The dog became good and liked Kekec.
Kekec stole the medicine and Pehta was very angry when she saw this. She wanted the dog to attack Kekec.
But the dog started barking at Pehta. Pehta was very sad and she left home and went to other places.
Kekec went to Mojca and put the medicine in her eyes. Mojca could see again and was not blind anymore.
Kekec, Mojca and Rožle were very happy. They continued to put goats out to eat grass together and were happy that Mojca was not blind anymore.

Kekec and Mojca
Kekec was a young shepherd boy. During summer he helped on a farm away from home in the mountains. There he had two friends Mojca and her brother Rožle.
Mojca was a blind girl with a beautiful voice. She loved to sing.
Mojca told Kekec about Pehta, who lives in the mountains. Pehta was not a nice lady and children were afraid of her. She also had an angry and big dog. Pehta picked herbs and made good teas. She also made medicine for people who are sick.
Kekec made a beautiful song about Pehta. He sang it, and Mojca and Rožle sang along with him.
When everyone went to work the next day, Mojca was left alone. She sat in the grass and sang a song about Pehta.
Pehta heard a song, approached her and took her into the woods where she lived.
Mojca was very sad and scared. She wanted to go home.
Pehta tried to calm her down. She promised to give her strawberries and hazelnuts, but Mojca was still afraid.
At home they were worried about Mojca and everyone was looking for her. Kekec was also searching for Mojca and he heard her singing. He followed her voice and found her in Pehta’s house and took her back home.
A few days later Kekec saw Pehta at the top of the hill. He wanted to run away, but her dog barked at him and showed his teeth. He had to go with Pehta and stay with her. She told him that she wanted to cure Mojca’s eyes, but now she can not. Kekec decided to steal the medicine from Pehta. Kekec had a plan. He gave the dog meat everyday. They became friends.
One morning, Pehta was still sleeping in her bed. Kekec stole the medicine for Mojca and tried to ran away with her dog.
Pehta ran after them and stopped them. Pehta ordered Kekec to go back. That’s when the dog showed his teeth and barked at Pehta.
Pehta understood. “Okay,” she said. “Now I’m leaving, and no one will see me again.” Pehta went away. Kekec stopped her and told her he took the medicine.
Pehta didn’t say anything, she just smiled. Kekec went to the valley with the dog.
When he came to Mojca’s house he told her that Pehta had gone forever. He gave her medicine and told her it will heal her eyes.
Kekec took the bottle to Mojca and gave her three drops into each eye. Mojca could suddenly see her father, her mother, brother, Kekec and everything around her.
Everyone was very happy that Mojca was not blind anymore.

Kekec and Mojca
This is the story of Kekec. Kekec is a cheerful and brave shepherd boy. In the past, it was common for older children to help their families survive by working on other farms in exchange for food and bed. Kekec would have to do that, too.
During summer he helped on a farm away from home, up in the mountains.
There he became friends with Mojca and her brother Rožle. Mojca was blind.
He found out about a woman named Pehta who lived in the mountains. She had a bad reputation and children were afraid of her. In reality she was just a medicine woman, who picked herbs and made teas. Kekec immediately came up with a song about her. He also taught the song to Mojca and Rožle.
One day Mojca sat in the grass near the forest and sang a song about Pehta. Her singing attracted Pehta to her. She was very kind to Mojca. She promised to give her berries, if she comes with her. Mojca went with her to her cottage.
At home, people searched for Mojca in vain. They were very worried about her. Kekec and Rožle went to look for her. Somewhere on the way they heard Mojca singing. The song was coming out of a small cottage.
Rožle was frightened of Pehta and ran away. Kekec found Mojca in Pehta’s cottage and rescued her, taking her home.
At home everybody was happy to see her again.
A few days later, Kekec was walking slowly near Pehta’s cottage and he heard someone calling him. It was Pehta with her scary dog, showing his sharp teeth.
He had to go with Pehta and stay with her.
The next morning, Pehta prepared him a delicious breakfast and wanted him to keep her company. She said it was Kekec’s fault that Mojca would remain blind forever. She told him she has a cure for her eyes and she could help her. He blamed himself for Mojca’s blindness and decided to find and steal the cure.
Kekec found the cure and tried to escape, but the dog wouldn’t let him.
Kekec hid the medicine in a secret pocket and came up with a plan. He would become friends with a dog. He would be kind to him and feed him pieces of meat everyday.
One morning, while Pehta was still asleep in her bed, Kekec took the bottle of precious drops from his hiding place. Then he and the dog quietly slipped out of the cottage.
After a while, he saw Pehta running after him. Kekec stopped and waited for her. Pehta ordered Kekec to go back, but the dog showed his sharp teeth and barked at her. Pehta was shocked. The dog had betrayed her. She decided to go deep into the forest, where no one would ever see her again. She said a friendly goodbye to Kekec, shook his hand, and walked away. Before she disappeared, Kekec shouted to her that he had stolen some cure for Mojca. Pehta just smiled and walked away.
Kekec went straight to Mojca’s house and gave her the cure. He put three drops in each of her eyes. Suddenly she looked around with her eyes wide-open. Mojca could finally see! She was amazed and laughed with joy. The whole family cried with happiness.
