The Adventures of Lazarillo
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Lázaro. He lived in a small village with his mum, but they were very poor. His dad had gone far away, and his mum couldn’t take care of him alone.
One day, a blind man said to him:
—”Come with me! I will teach you many things.”
But the blind man was not kind. He ate white bread and purple grapes, but he barely gave any food to Lázaro.
Lázaro was very hungry, so he thought:
“If he won’t give me food, I will have to find it myself.”
The Priest and the cheese
After a while, Lázaro went to live with a priest.
—”You will live with me,” said the priest.
But the priest didn’t give him much food either. Lázaro saw a big piece of yellow cheese and a round loaf of bread on the table, but he could barely taste them.
So Lázaro became very clever. Every day, he took a little bit of food without the priest noticing.
The important man and the food
One day, Lázaro met an important man dressed in red and blue. He looked rich, but he actually had nothing.
—”Come, Lázaro, we will surely find something to eat.”
But they found nothing. Lázaro looked at the white chickens on the road and dreamed of a big bowl of hot soup.
They had difficult days, but Lázaro learned to be strong.
A Job and a family
Years passed, and Lázaro found a job announcing news.
—”Attention, attention!” —he shouted in the plaza.
Now he could buy his own food: three red apples, a piece of yellow cheese, and a cup of white milk.
One day, he met Dona Guiomar, a kind and good woman. They got married and started a family.
Although they were never rich, Lázaro was no longer hungry. He learned to be smart and brave to move forward.

Later, his new master was a man who said he was rich, but in reality, he had nothing. They lived together in an empty house, with almost no food. Lázaro learned that some people seem to have a lot, but in reality, they do not.
Finally, Lázaro found a job as a messenger, announcing news in the city. Al last, he was no longer hungry and could live better.
Over time, he married a woman named Doña Guiomar. Even though they were never rich, Lázaro learned to survive and be smart, and that helped him move forward.
